Assessment is a day activity which the teacher undertakes to know and discover the qualities,
talent, abilities and short-comings of his/her students. The teacher uses various ways and
method to know and study the students in their mental, physical, social, emotional, aesthetic
and spiritual development. The teacher is in constant touch with the students and tries to know
them with a view to help them in their all round development.
After every unit, when the students are led into new areas of knowledge and discovery, the
teacher assesses the students to see how they have assimilated and understood that particular
unit. This is done appropriate tough provoking questions both oral and written, healthy
inter-group and inter-section activities. The students are also assessed for their ability to
understand, to respond and retain the new knowledge gained.
The written book is only one of the many ways of assessing a student. Even in the written work,
the teacher takes into account the QUALITY, ACCURACY, NEATNESS and the EFFICIENCY with which the
work is done.
Besides the written task, the students are graded for their response in the class, class work,
sketches, display of models, charts etc. they are expected to express their thoughts freely and
confidently. The teacher also takes into account the honesty, creativity and originality of the
work, while allotting the grades.
Hence, the assessment is based on the all round growth of a student from all possible angles.
The annual awards and prizes given will be on the basis of total points obtained.
The results of the assessment are communicated to the parents by means of progress reports.
All promotions are decided in consultation with the teacher at the end of academic year.
Promotion is granted on the basis of the grades obtained in the assessment as well as the
general work of the whole year. The result declared at the end of the year are final. In
deciding the promotion of a student, grades of all the assessments will be taken in
consideration. The minimum pass marks in each subject will be 40 per cent.
Absence/Leave in an assessment will be treated as having received no marks in it.
THE GRADES
Students are given the following grades according to their overall performance in the exams. The
